About Us
The Chair of Space Geodesy embraces the new opportunities that advances in artificial intelligence bring to geodetic research. We design and implement state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to improve the quality of geodetic observations and products from GNSS, satellite gravimetry, and VLBI. Furthermore, AI-based methods are applied to the large-scale analysis of geodetic time series to detect, predict, and investigate geophysical signals, including those related to hydrological and seismic events, severe weather, ionospheric disturbances, and climate change.
Contributions
The Chair of Space Geodesy is part of the Institute of Geodesy and Photogrammetry (IGP) in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG).
With our work, we contribute to ETH Zurich | Space and the ETH AI Center.
History
Since its establishment in April 2020, the group has experienced remarkable growth and evolution. What began as a small team with a shared vision has quickly developed into a dynamic and diverse research community. Over the years, the group has welcomed numerous researchers, students, and visitors from around the world, each contributing their expertise, perspectives, and energy.
These collaborations have not only strengthened the scientific foundations of the group but have also shaped its identity as a vibrant, international environment where ideas are exchanged freely and innovative projects take form.
The following group pictures capture the people who have defined the group throughout the years.
