Space Geodesy Meetings in Potsdam
Three important meetings: GGOS Topical Meeting on the Atmosphere, GSTM, and GGOS Days
The GGOS Topical Meeting on the Atmosphere was held over three days (October 7-9) in Potsdam, Germany. Benedikt Soja and Matthias Aichinger-Rosenberger from the Space Geodesy group participated in the meeting. Benedikt gave a talk on how to use machine-learning to produce ionospheric corrections for single-frequency VLBI observations and chaired the respective session on atmospheric modelling based on artificial intelligence. In addition, he presented a poster about the prediction of atmospheric parameters at the Geodetic Prediction Center of ETH Zurich. Matthias presented the latest results on thunderstorm monitoring using GNSS signal-to-noise ratio.
The meeting, which was organized by the GGOS Coordinating Office, attracted around 76 participants from a broad range of countries worldwide. With a mixture of established experts in atmosphere monitoring and early-career scientists, it provided a great opportunity for scientific exchange and networking.
The following days were dedicated to the GGOS Days (October 10-11). Julia Koch gave a external page presentation outlining the future plans and ideas of the newly established IAG Early Career Scientist (ECS) representatives. The ECS representatives were appointed to enhance the visibility of early career scientists in geodesy and to encourage their participation in the IAG structure. Furthermore, Benedikt gave a presentation about the latest progress in the GGOS Focus Area "AI for Geodesy".
In the same week, the GRACE/GRACE-FO Science Team Meeting (GSTM) 2024 took place (October 8-10) with more than 160 participants worldwide. During the meeting, Junyang Gou introduced his recent progress in downscaling the Greenland Ice Sheet using graph neural networks in collaboration with colleagues from TU Dresden and GFZ.
