The Space Geodesy Group in South Africa

Arno, Marcel, and Matthias had the opportunity to visit the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) in South Africa. Then they travelled to the International Astronomical Union (IAU) conference, which Benedikt also attended.

As part of the KOSMIC project, members of the Space Geodesy Group—Arno, Marcel, and Matthias—had the opportunity to visit our colleagues at the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) in South Africa. The visit was highly productive and filled with engaging discussions with researchers on site. However, the undeniable highlight was witnessing the various instruments in action, particularly the 26-meter Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) telescope and the Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) instrument.

Following our stay at HartRAO, we traveled to Cape Town to attend the external page International Astronomical Union (IAU) conference, the largest astronomy conference in the world. Benedikt also joined the conference. Our group had a strong presence at the event, showcasing our work through various posters and presentations.
