In September 2023, Dr. Matthias Aichinger-Rosenberger joined the Space Geodesy group as a new post-doc.

Matthias finished his Ph.D. in Geodesy and Geoinformation at TU Vienna in 2021, with a thesis on atmosphere monitoring using GNSS receivers mounted on trains. Afterwards, he became post-doc at the chair for Mathematical and Physical Geodesy at ETH Zurich for almost two years, where he initiated a small low-cost GNSS network for the monitoring of environmental parameters such as water vapor and soil moisture. Over the last eight months, he was a post-doc fellow in the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC) group at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, USA. There, he worked on uncertainty quantifications of GNSS radio occultation (RO) data.

Back at the Space Geodesy group at ETH Zurich, Matthias will continue to work on topics related to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and their usage for environmental monitoring. Some of his particular research interests include GNSS remote sensing techniques (such as ground-based water vapor sensing, GNSS-RO and GNSS reflectometry), utilizing low-cost GNSS equipment for environmental monitoring tasks and the usage of machine learning techniques for GNSS data analysis. In addition to these research topics, he will also be giving lectures on GNSS and Satellite Geodesy in the upcoming semester.

We are looking forward to doing exciting research and wish him all the best for his new position!
